Conversational French – Level I
The course is designed for persons who possess no prior knowledge in French. The course consists of a blend of lectures and monitored activities in French. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to attain the Novice High skill level in accordance with ACTFL proficiency guidelines. Participants will be able to “manage successfully a number of uncomplicated communicative tasks in straightforward social situations” such as:
- Greet others and introduce oneself/ others in formal and informal settings
- Give personal information about oneself
- Talk about one’s immediate family
- Describe oneself and others
- Order something to eat and drink
- Talk about one’s likes/ dislikes
- Ask for and tell the time
- Discuss daily routine
- Understand print and audio material related to the above items in French.

Conversational German – Level I

Event Planning
In recent times, the traditional concept of an event as mainly a celebratory or fundraising activity has been challenged as businesses and other organizations have increasingly recognized the value of events as tools for creating or increasing market awareness and building business relationships. In this course students will be provided with a sound introduction to the principles of event planning including the promotion, planning (e.g. concept or theme development, budgeting, selection and coordination of resources including site, personnel, utilities and permits), execution and evaluation of an event. 3 credits

Epidemiology
This is an advanced course in epidemiology which will provide expertise in planning and evaluation of health care, identification of determinants of diseases, evaluation of methods for disease control, classification of diseases, collaborative collection and analysis of data, preservation and analysis of data, investigation of disease outbreaks and preparation of reports. 4 credits
