The College of Science, Technology & Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) invites suitably qualified persons to apply for the following position in the Technology Services Department:
Database Administrator
Key Responsibilities:
-
Design, implement and maintain Oracle database systems (10g /11g); experience with BANNER applications a plus.

Perform database tasks necessary to implement data design changes; including testing of database systems and improving day-to-day database management tasks.

Work with team/s to ensure that the associated hardware resources are allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimum performance.

Maintain database dictionaries and integrates application systems through database design.
-
Perform database capacity planning.
-
Conduct database systems performance monitoring and tuning, and problem tracking/resolution activities.
-
Supervise the identification and development of distributed database products.
-
Perform maintenance of database installation and backup and recovery procedures.
-
Develop appropriate documentation, policies and procedures for all database structures and distribute college-wide, as necessary.
-
Provide support and assistance to the programmer/analysts.
-
Engage in self-directed learning of existing/new database technologies.
-
Ensure timely preparation and reliability of reports associated with the job function.
The successful candidate must have:
-
A Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent from a recognized university in Computer Science.
-
Knowledge of Advance SQL, SQL Performance Tuning and Administration of Oracle Application Server.
-
Professional Oracle Certification, preferably OCP.
-
Proven Oracle Database Administration experience.
-
Experience in managing multiple RDBMS on large systems.
-
Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service.

Experience in other database systems, preferably SQL/Oracle Server.
-
Practical experience in managing the internal and external MS SQL/Oracle database security.
-
Experience in working in a team that delivers a high availability service.
-
Demonstrated experience in establishing rapport and trust in order to build and maintain relationships with customers and colleagues.

Exceptional ability to think logically and problem solving.
