New Bachelor Degree Programmes


The College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) is pleased to announce the launch of ten (10) new bachelor degree programmes.  With the introduction of these programmes, we at COSTAATT are fulfilling our mission of creating new pathways for more of our citizens to participate in the achievement of the Vision 2020 goal of becoming a knowledge-driven society.  Consistent with our commitment to promote economic diversification, social responsibility, civic engagement; to  strengthen  our  science  and  technology  capacity  and  cultural  capital, these  new  programme  offerings will create  opportunities for personal and societal transformation, which are at the heart of COSTAATT’s vision.

 
Bachelor of Science in Psychology
Participants of this programme will be equipped to function as paraprofessionals in any environment where social services are provided and will acquire the competence to pursue postgraduate studies in Psychology.
 
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
Participants of this programme will acquire the content knowledge to teach mathematics at the secondary level and in associate degree programmes. Graduates will be equipped to pursue post-graduate studies in mathematics, as well as professional actuarial certification.
 
Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication
This programme is aimed primarily at applicants who have previous experience or interest in the media, public relations, advertising and/or communication studies. Participants will develop an understanding of current communication theories, practical ‘real world’ media and public relations experience, critical thinking and analytical skills and research capabilities.
 
Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Entrepreneurship
Students will gain the requisite skills and knowledge required to function in and/or manage the 21st century business. This integrated programme recognizes the importance of entrepreneurship in rapidly diversifying and dynamic economies and provides the foundation for leadership in modern organizations.
 
Admission requirements for the above listed programmes:
  • Five (5) CSEC (CXC) passes, Grades I, II or III (after June 1998) including English and Mathematics.
  • Applicants with A Level/CAPE qualifications will be considered for advanced placement, course exemptions and transfer of credits where applicable.
  • Applicants with an associate degree in the relevant discipline, may be admitted to complete the bachelor‘s degree programme with advanced standing and transfer of relevant credits.
  • Consideration may be given to mature applicants over 25 with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
 
Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology
With emphasis on the acquisition of independent critical skills, this programme will provide medical laboratory technicians with the certification required to access higher level positions in the public health care system.
 
Admission requirements:
  • Five (5) CSEC (CXC) passes, Grades I, II or III (after June 1998) including English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry.
  • Applicants with A Level/CAPE qualifications will be considered for advanced placement, course exemptions and transfer of credits where applicable.
  • Applicants with an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, may be admitted to complete the bachelor‘s degree programme with advanced standing and transfer of relevant credits and three to five years’ clinical experience.
  • Consideration will be given to mature applicants over 25 with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
 
Bachelor of Science in General Nursing
Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing
The programme is aimed at enabling practising nurses and persons desirous of entering the nursing profession to function efficiently and effectively in the constantly changing dynamics of the modern health care environment.
 
Admission requirments:
  • Five (5) CSEC (CXC) passes, Grades I, II or III (after June 1998) including English and Mathematics.
  • Applicants with A Level/CAPE qualifications will be considered for advanced placement, course exemptions and transfer of credits where applicable.
  • Applicants with an associate degree in the relevant discipline, may be admitted to complete the bachelor‘s degree programme with advanced standing and transfer of relevant credits.
  • Applicants must first obtain a permit from the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
 
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology - Networking
The programme is designed for individuals seeking a career in information technology with an emphasis on networking skills. Students will gain hands-on experience with network systems commonly found in business environments and will discover how well designed networks (both wired and wireless) support organizational success.
 
Admission requirements:
  • Five (5) CSEC (CXC) passes, Grades I, II or III (after June 1998) including English and Mathematics.
  • Applicants with A Level/CAPE qualifications will be considered for advanced placement, course exemptions and transfer of credits where applicable.
  • Applicants with an Associate Degree in Information Technology, may be admitted to complete the bachelor‘s degree programme with advanced standing and transfer of relevant credits.
  • Consideration may be given to mature applicants over 25 with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Students will have the opportunity to earn vendor certification (CISCO).
 
Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems
This programme focuses on information systems in business, industry, government and nonprofit organizations. It prepares students for careers in the growing field of information technology by equipping them with skills in system analysis and design, programming, database development and administration and internet driven database applications.
 
Admission requirements:
  • Five (5) CXC/CSEC passes, Grades I, II or III (after June 1998) including English and Mathematics.
  • Applicants with an Associate Degree in Information Technology, may be admitted to complete the bachelor‘s degree programme with advanced standing and transfer of relevant credits.
  • Applicants with A Level/CAPE qualifications will be considered for advanced placement, course exemptions and transfer of credits where applicable.
  • Consideration will be given to mature applicants over 25 with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Students will have the opportunity to earn vendor certification (ORACLE-OCP)
 
Bachelor of Music
This programme will provide instruction in the discipline of music, enabling graduates to understand the foundations of music history, the usefulness of the principles of music theory, their relationship to contemporary music and application to performance practices. Six areas of concentration: Voice; Piano; Guitar; Pan; Woodwind and Brass; Music Education
 
Admission requirements:
  • Five (5) CSEC (CXC) passes, Grades I, II or III (after June 1998) including English and Mathematics.
  • Applicants with A Level/CAPE qualifications will be considered for advanced placement, course exemptions and transfer of credits where applicable.
  • Applicants with an associate degree in the relevant discipline, may be admitted to complete the bachelor‘s degree programme with advanced standing and transfer of relevant credits.
  • A minimum of Grade III Music Theory from an accredited institution such as the Royal School of Music, Trinity College of Music or similarly accredited institution.
  • Applicants must successfully complete an audition on an instrument of choice from the available menu of options (Piano, Pan, Voice, Guitar, Woodwind, Brass)
 
 
PLACEMENT TESTS
All applicants admitted to the College are required to take placement tests in English and Mathematics in order to be placed in the appropriate level course.
 
 
COST
TUITION IS FREE FOR CITIZENS OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO, UNDER THE GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE FOR TUITION EXPENSES (GATE) PROGRAMME. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT OF ALL RELEVANT COLLEGE FEES.
