COSTAATT goes under to TSTT
COSTAATT’s netball team could not reproduce the success they enjoyed in last week’s opener, going under 30-16 to TSTT in a thrilling encounter at the Tacarigua All Purpose Facility on the evening of January 17th.
Up against a highly experienced TSTT team featuring the College’s very own Social Work student Deneicia Harris, COSTAATT had their backs against the wall from the first whistle. Taking immediate control of the game, TSTT left COSTAATT in their wake early so that by the end of the first quarter, the score was already 13-2. Goal Attack Ria Roach-Abdullah had netted COSTAATT’s first item and Goal Shoot Victoria St. Louis got another right at the buzzer.
. In the second quarter COSTAATT fared a little better, Abdullah managed to net three goals in response to TSTT’s six, which made the half-time score 19-5.
COSTAATT responded positively in the third quarter after opting to make several changes. Deseire Frederick entered the game in the Goal Keeper position while Marisa Williams took over the Goal Attack position from last game’s heroine Victoria St Louis. Excellent defending by team captain Alicia John and Deseire Frederick, supported by an impressive showing by rookie Wing Attack Curshelle Williams, kept COSTAATT in with an outside chance throughout the quarter. Williams and Abdullah netted eight goals between them while TSTT only managed to breach the stout COSTAATT defense for three points. The score read 22-13 at the end of the third quarter and the COSTAATT posse were confident that their team would narrow the gap in the final tilt.
It was not to be. Despite maintaining the level of skillful play in the fourth quarter , COSTAATT’s shots just could not put the ball in the net. Abdullah and Williams together combined for a mere three points while TSTT regained their early goal-scoring form, adding eight points by the end of the game.
COSTAATT takes on the Trinidad and Tobago Police team next at Tacarigua on Monday January 23 from 6:20 p.m.

COSTAATT Netballers Make Winning Start
COSTAATT’s netballers made a successful start to their All-Sectors campaign with a tight 25-24 victory over the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC) last Tuesday 10th January, at the Tacarigua All Purpose Facility.
Playing in the Alternate Division of the League, the team, coached by national captain Janelle Barker, led by five goals at the end of the first half. However, midway through the second half USC fought back and leveled the score. USC could have taken control of the game but excellent defensive work by COSTAATT captain Alicia John allied with good shooting by Ria Roach-Abdullah kept them from doing so.
With time running out and the scores deadlocked at 24-24, lanky goal shoot Victoria St Louis held her nerve on the last shot of the game to hit the only net score and give COSTAATT the narrow one-point win.
COSTAATT’s next game will be tomorrow (January 17) against TSTT at Tacarigua from 6:45pm.

Another Win For COSTAATT
COSTAATT’s footballers produced an impressive display of attacking soccer to defeat Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies 3-1 and exorcize last year’s demons last Friday (November 11).
Bolstered by the return of key midfielders Jason Diaz and Christopher Durity, the Melville Lane Boys began positively, taking almost complete control of the midfield. They should have opened the scoring as early as the 7th minute when Dhawren “Nemo” St Bryce damblayed his mistake in the game against USC earlier in the week. With only the goalkeeper to beat, “Nemo” failed to even force a save from the custodian, putting his shot over the bar. A few moments later in the 9th minute, St Bryce was again the villain when, sent through by a fine Durity right-side pass, he could only manage to shoot wide of the upright.
COSTAATT and the hard-working Durity continued to play positively and the reward eventually came in the 11th minute when the midfielder picked out Jason Constant with a deft left-side cross and the right midfielder obliged with a tap-in from a few yards out.
The Cipriani midfield then rose to the challenge and began to create a number of accurate crosses after piercing runs down both flanks. But it was a tough tackle by COSTAATT’s skipper Adisa Doughlin that eventually gave the home side their well-deserved equalizer, converted from the penalty spot in the 27th minute by Andre Mohammed.
Within ten minutes, COSTAATT put their noses back in front when Durity dived low to head home his first goal of the season to finish off some deft right-side play and a cross from Constant in the 37th minute. The visitors capped off a satisfying evening’s work in the dying minutes of regulation when substitute Theon Edwards smashed a 35-yard screamer into the roof of the Cipriani’s net.
The win leaves COSTAATT with seven points from their five completed games with only ROYTEC (Wednesday November 16) and UTT (Friday November 18) left to play. Both games are carded for the UTT Ground in O’Meara.

COSTAATT Go Under To USC
Good goalkeeping and poor defensive work saw COSTAATT’s footballers lose their second game of the season when they went under 3-0 to the University of Southern Caribbean (USC) at O’Meara last Wednesday (November 2).
Playing on a field made heavy by torrential showers, both teams found the underfoot conditions a bit difficult early in the first half. Despite the second minute booking of Vikalis “Swanky’ Hunte for dissent, it was the visitors who had the better of the early exchanges. In the 15th minute, they created – and squandered – their first chance when Dhawren “Nemo” St Bryce worked his way into the area from the left side. With only the keeper to beat, St Bryce rifled his shot over the bar. Within ten minutes in the 24th, USC replied in kind, Carnias Wilson finding himself in space and in possession inside the box and contriving to direct his shot overbars. Another ten minutes of free-flowing football went by before the home side created another good scoring opportunity in the 35th minute. The effort, the culmination of some clever interplay by the USC midfield, went wide of the upright leaving both teams deadlocked at 0-0 at the interval.
In the second half, COSTAATT’s Christopher Durity replaced Raymond Robinson and he immediately made his presence felt. The influential midfielder created several chances for his teammates early in the proceedings but the visitors could not capitalise. USC made them pay. The half was only three minutes old when, against the run of play, a quick USC counter-attack resulted in the opening goal off the boots of Kafra Anderson. COSTAATT came within a whisker of earning an equalizer when Durity hit a brilliant direct free-kick goalwards from 30 yards out but he was denied by a spectacular save from the USC custodian.
The homesters got their second item in the 59th minute when Wilson stabbed home during a goalmouth scramble. The striker collected a poor defensive clearance and, racing into the box, gave Matthew Wiltshire in goal for the visitors no chance. But the home side saved its best for last as Linson Tobias scored the goal of the game with just over a quarter of an hour left in regulation time. Running onto a through ball just outside of the penalty area, the midfielder saw his shot nestle in the back of the COSTAATT net before Wiltshire could move to intercept it.
With four points from four games, COSTAATT lie in sixth position on the eight-team table while UTT are sitting pretty on top of the standings with 12 points from their four completed fixtures. COSTAATT’s next engagement is an away game against Cipriani Labour College at Cipriani’s Ground in Valsayn on Friday (November 11).

Unbeaten Streak Ends
COSTAATT’s unbeaten streak in the Tertiary Sports Association of Trinidad and Tobago (TSATT) Football League ended when they went under 4-0 to three-time defending champions UWI at the University Grounds in St Augustine on Friday October 28th.
Playing in front of a partisan home crowd, UWI applied early pressure and might have taken the lead as early as in the fourth minute. Not for the first time, COSTAATT was rescued by excellent goalkeeping by custodian Matthew Wiltshire. Surviving the early onslaught, they even managed to create a real goal scoring opportunity at the other end when Dhawren “Nemo” St Bryce found himself in a one-on-one with the UWI keeper, Adrian Prythesingh. Unfortunately for the visitors, however, St Bryce could only turn his shot over the bar of the advancing custodian.
The relentless UWI frontline simply would not be denied and their domination of the proceedings was eventually reflected in the score line, when fine finishing by Keron Clarke put them ahead. Wiltshire’s solid defences were again breached just past the half-hour mark, by Kevern De Bellot the marksman on this occasion.
Although COSTAATT found themselves two goals down and without star forward St Bryce as the second half began, they started positively enough on the resumption. Samuel “Hardest” Jemmott sent a high cross from the right flank but Christopher Durity’s header on the end of it was just wide of the mark. And, just like in the first half, the home side made COSTAATT pay for their miss as David Maloney (62nd) and Daryl Lewis (70th) sealed a comfortable victory for UWI.
After the game, Wiltshire told the COSTAATT Star that he thought the game was lost because of the missed goal scoring opportunities and faulty midfield play. The failure to close the many gaps in the middle of the park, he said, created problems for the defense which eventually led to the goals his side conceded to. Coach Nigel Ramah pointed to his team’s poor finishing as the major shortcoming although he was also not satisfied with the midfield play. According to Ramah, if the team is to feel confident of winning the three remaining fixtures, there will have to be marked improvement in these two areas.
COSTAATT’s next game is against the University of the Southern Caribbean on Wednesday November 2 at UTT’s O’Meara Campus starting at 5pm.

Wiltshire Saves COSTAATT’s Face
Fine goalkeeping by Matthew Wiltshire earned COSTAATT a share of the points in the second round of the UTT Football League against the Caribbean Nasarene College (CNC) at the UTT’s O’Meara Campus in Arima last Friday. Despite being without three key players for their match-up against the rookies, the boys in purple were highly favoured to register their second league victory after their round one victory over TTHTI. Instead, they had to settle for a disappointing goalless draw.
COSTAATT took charge of the match from the blow of the first whistle forcing CNC to consistently chase the game. It seemed as though it would have been only a matter of time before COSTAATT went ahead, but they simply could not convert any of the many opportunities they created into a goal. Midway through the first half, Dhawren “Nemo” St Bryce, rose high to divert a left side cross goalwards, he missed but only by mere centimeters, this was the closest the team came to a goal. COSTAATT would have been ruing this and many other misses at the interval had Wiltshire not pulled off a reflex save to keep CNC from taking a lead just before half-time.
The second half was a repeat of the first. A tactical switch by stand-in coach Nigel Ramah saw skipper Adisa Douglin dropping into the back four, while experienced defender Jamal Maughn moved up to join the attack. Marshaled by Maughn, the marauding midfielders surged forward repeatedly, creating scoring opening after scoring opening but they were denied over and over by inept finishing, good defence or alert goalkeeping. CNC rallied to try to steal the points, however, COSTAATT’s Man-of-the-match; Wiltshire again stood in their way.
After the game, Ian Carter lamented that his team should have won the game. “We had a much better game than them,” he said. “I thought where we went wrong was that we didn’t get enough shots on target.”
Next up for COSTAATT is the crucial fixture against three-time league winners UWI on Friday at the University’s grounds in St. Augustine.
