It is with great pride that the Board of Trustees, management, staff and students of the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) announce the news of becoming the very first institution in Trinidad and Tobago to be granted full institutional accreditation with the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT). The effective date of the College’s accreditation is 18th November 2010.
The College was awarded the maximum term of seven (7) years at a ceremony held at COSTAATT on Wednesday 27th April 2011, where ACTT Chairman, Dr. Michael Dowlath, presented the Certificate of Accreditation to COSTAATT’s President Emmanuel E. Gonsalves. Also witnessing the presentation was a cross section of COSTAATT’s executive management, faculty, staff and student representatives. This is a major milestone in the institution’s history, which comes at a time when the College is celebrating its 10th anniversary and can boast of being the largest national public tertiary institution with a record enrolment of over 9,600 students and counting. The ‘seal of accreditation’ is granted on the basis of a detailed and comprehensive evaluation of all aspects of the College’s operations and is evidence of the high standards of its programmes and services.
The external accreditation evaluation team particularly commended the institution for its culture of progress, curricular diversification, robust quality assurance system and commitment to innovation and technology driven operations. In the words of the evaluators “COSTAATT has an active and dedicated faculty and staff and their students are engaged and passionate about standards…” In addition, “[t]here is a universal belief in the culture of progress and participation…that is quite impressive.” The report also cited the institution’s stability and visionary leadership as significant and contributory to its progress, fiscal health and culture of excellence. In summary, the evaluation concludes that “COSTAATT has immense potential to bring even greater value to the country and the world in terms of transforming the lives of thousands of citizens for a much needed infusion of human capital…” COSTAATT’s Chairman, Dr. Allan McKenzie complimented the College community for “the remarkable achievement,” characterizing the institution as “the most progressive, indigenous tertiary institution,” also noting its “tremendous potential for the growth of the country, the development of the economy and the satisfaction of the varied demands of a diverse and modern … work force.”
COSTAATT wishes to extend thanks to its Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and students, members of the College’s Accreditation Steering Committee and the ACTT for their commitment and hard work.
