PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

The target population for this programme is the professional who needs to acquire data analysis skills toboost efficiency at his/her job or business. However, other interested students will be considered.The list is as follows:

Professionals seeking to boost data analysis skills in the workplace.

Small business owners seeking to use data more effectively to make business decisions.

Students just completing CSEC Examinations, who wish to enter the fast-growing Data Science field at the basic level.

Students who want to boost their resume.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The minimum entry requirement for admission is the acceptable passing grade for CSEC Mathematics which is a Grades I, II or III. These are the prerequisites for the first two courses in the programme, STAT120 – Fundamentals of Statistics and ITEC 133 – Programming l.

A student without the minimal qualification or relevant work place experience may be required to take an entry placement assessment and undertake an interview to determine suitability for entry to the programme. Suitability on an individual basis may be determined based on professional background, work experience, other academic credits, prior learning, training and educational background.

While it is ideal for prospective students to meet the above-mentioned admission requirements, individuals with challenged academic standing can be allowed access to the Certificate through the College’s COMPASS programme.

    A key aspect of the Certificate in Introduction to Data Science is to integrate the theory with the practical. There are five(5) courses in this programme.  The final course is a practical course which gives students opportunities to work in teams, develop leadership skills and work on projects similar to real-world scenarios. It will take three (3) semesters to complete.

              

    To earn a Certificate in Introduction to Data Science, students must complete a minimum of 15 credits.  The courses are as follows:

    The table below provides a summary of fees payable to the College. Only nationals of Trinidad and Tobago are eligible to receive government’s GATE funding for tuition expenses listed hereunder.

    Included in the college fees, is basic insurance coverage for accident and injury. However, CARICOM and international students are also required to secure additional insurance to cover medical expenses.

    All students of COSTAATT are required to pay an annual insurance fee of $30.00. Completed student insurance forms must be submitted to the College at the beginning of the first semester in which students register for the academic year. Coverage is restricted to students who are between ages 16 to 65.

    Institutional fees are non-refundable. Students who officially withdraw from the College may be eligible for a refund of tuition fees in accordance with the schedule outlined in the Academic Calendar. Please note that students in receipt of GATE funding are not eligible for tuition refunds.

     

    The Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses (GATE)

    The Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses programme (GATE) provides free tuition to all eligible citizens of Trinidad and Tobago pursuing approved programmes at public and private tertiary level institutions. Information on eligibility and conditions for accessing GATE funding is available at the Ministry of Education website at:  www.moe.gov.tt

    Important:
    Students must note that GATE funding is available for the duration of their course of study and one year beyond. Students who fail to complete their programme within the stipulated time frame will be required to meet the cost of programme completion.

    The Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses (GATE) programme is a one hundred per cent, tuition fee funding programme offered by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. Only nationals of Trinidad and Tobago are eligible to apply, and students must be registered in a course of study leading to a tertiary level qualification.

    The vast majority of the College’s programmes are eligible for GATE.

     

    Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP)

    The Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP) is a special loan facility made available to citizens of Trinidad and Tobago who are enrolled in an approved tertiary level programme at a registered tertiary institution to meet the following expenses:

    • tuition fees
    • accommodation
    • airfare and other transportation costs
    • personal maintenance costs and living expenses
    • books and related materials
    • special equipment
    • other related tertiary expenses

    To be awarded the Certificate in Introduction to Data Science, students must successfully complete 15 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0, according to the following distribution:
