This course seeks to generate, develop, and heighten the skills required for the disciplines of speechwriting and speech performance. Students will work individually and in groups to write speeches for themselves and others. Participants will have many opportunities to write and deliver speeches in both the professional and personal spheres. They will also study manuscripts of high calibre speeches delivered in a variety of international and local settings to absorb best practices throughout the industry of speechwriting. This course will also prepare and familiarise the student for the challenges of writing for the ear – as speeches must ultimately be performed before an audience, and not simply read as text. Students should exit the course with sound foundation for a future in speechwriting, corporate communications, and writing for broadcast media.
Applicants seeking admissions to this short course must be sixteen (16) years and over.
